While a flu shot is your best protection against influenza, not everyone can be immunized. Michelle Friesen, a mom of two children who has breast cancer, talks about what the flu shot means to her and her young family.
As the best defence against influenza infection & illness, influenza immunization is recommended, annually, for all Albertans six months of age and older.
Pneumococcal immunization is also available for some individuals based on age and medical conditions. It protects against pneumococcal disease.
Alberta Health Services no longer provides on-site influenza immunization to businesses. There are a number of different options available from private providers, such as pharmacists, or private immunization clinics. Alternatively, employees can visit community partners to receive the influenza vaccine at no individual cost, such as physician offices, community pharmacies, and public health.
